The Communist Party of India (CPI) has called upon the Union Government to roll back its proposal of a ‘three language formula from the primary level’, introduced in the draft ‘New Education Policy’ and released by the HRD Ministry.
In a statement, A.M. Salim, secretary of CPI said that India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had promised that Hindi will not be imposed on any State and English would be the additional language of administrative communication. However, the Union Government was trying to renege on the promise made by Mr. Nehru.
The Centre should withdraw the proposal failing which the CPI would launch a massive protest, he said.
