The State government has appointed Subrahmanyam Sriram as the Advocate-General.
G.O. 145 was issued in this regard on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy preferred Mr. Sriram though a couple of other names too did the rounds for the key post.
He would represent the State in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.
The Advocate-General chooses his team of government pleaders, assistant pleaders, standing counsels for various corporations.
Mr. Sriram’s name had first come to the fore in May 2009 when the then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy chose senior counsel D.V. Sitarama Murthy as the Advocate-General. Mr. Murthy, while forming his team, had appointed Mr. Sriram as special government pleader. He had worked in that capacity from 2009 to 2011. Mr. Sriram began his practice in 1996. He is an expert in constitutional, educational and service laws. He is known for his legal acumen and speedy arguments.
