ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Match 8, India vs South Africa: Live Updates from Southampton
Live Cricket Score, South Africa vs India, 2019 World Cup Match 8: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Match 8 of the 2019 World Cup live from The Rose Bowl Southampton where Virat Kohli's India take on Faf du Plessis' South Africa. It has been nearly a week since the World Cup has begun and India are the only team who are yet to play a game. They finally get a chance to make their mark, as they take on South Africa in Southampton. The Proteas have already been dealt a huge blow, with Dale Steyn ruled out of the tournament and Lungi Ngidi not set to play for at least another 10 days. That will tell a lot on the bowling, since it was struggling against England and also against Bangladesh. Their batting has looked good but in patches and the good news for them is that Hashim Amla has been ruled fit for this fixture. He was hit on the helmet in the first match against England and missed out on the second game. India, on the other hand, will be yearning to play. It is never good when you have spent more than a week and seeing other teams play but have not got a chance. They will be aiming to get a headstart and do well. Unfortunately for them, their last warm-up day before the game was rained off but they will not be too perturbed with the players getting an extra day of rest. On paper, South Africa may not miss Dale Steyn so much. His one-day record of late does not boast too well but experience is something which counts for in these big events. Lungi Ngidi is someone the Proteas will miss a lot. India will aim to catch the bull by the horns and hand the Proteas their third successive defeat. Brief Preview: Virat Kohli will embark on the most defining journey of his international career, carrying the hopes of more than a billion when he leads India against an injury-hit South Africa in their World Cup opener here Wednesday. Kohli is one of the best batsmen of this era but this edition of the World Cup will define his legacy as a leader, an aspect on which the jury is still out despite some heady achievements in the Test arena.
