The Congress-led Opposition has offered its support to the State government to fight the outbreak of Nipah.

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala met Health Minister K.K. Shylaja at Ernakulam on Tuesday and offered support. The Health Minister said that there was no need to panic and all precautions were taken for meeting the situation, said Mr. Chennithala. He urged people to abstain from spreading baseless information in social media.

Congress MPs Hibi Eden and Ramya Haridas met Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi with the request that efforts should be taken to send to Kerala a U.N. delegation, which had earlier studied the Nipah virus. They also made an appeal to make Nipah testing kits available to all local bodies. A Nipah Control Laboratory should be set up in the State, stated the petition.
