MADURAI
Apprehending arrest over a Facebook post, a man from Thanjavur district has filed a petition before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
The case of the prosecution was that the Facebook comment of the petitioner, Mohamed Imran, on jihad was made to promote enmity among different groups on the grounds of religion.
However, the petitioner claimed that he had never posted any such remark that could cause enmity among groups. He rendered social service during the onslaught of Cyclone Gaja that left the delta region devastated last year, he said.
In his petition seeking anticipatory bail, he said that he would abide by the conditions laid down by the court and furnish substantial sureties. Sethubavachathiram police in Thanjavur district had registered a case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
Justice P. Rajamanickam sought a counter from the State and adjourned the case by a week.
