JAIPUR: The Sikar police on Tuesday detained a 30-year-old man for concealing religious identity and hiring people to pose as his parents in his second wedding so that he could fraudulently marry a girl from a different community. Sikar SP Amandeep Kapoor Singh told TOI that the police teams have detained the youth, identified as Imran Bhati alias Kabir Sharma from Mumbai.
“We have detained him and will bring him to Sikar. An investigation is underway in case a cognizable offence is made out. After that he will be arrested,” Singh said. The case had evoked strong response from locals who staged protests against the fraudulent marriage alleging religious conversion.

The police, however, were left puzzled when Bhati’s second wife released a video claiming that she was aware of his religious identity and the wedding had her prior consent.
“The couple are adults, therefore there is little we could do. However, the investigation into the matter is currently under way,” said an official, adding that Bhati has also been accused of theft.
