Two held with counterfeit currency notes

Surat: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) caught two persons with a bundle of counterfeit notes of Rs 2,000 denomination from the Surat railway station on Wednesday.

DRI had received information about a man who was possessing Rs 2,000 counterfeit notes with his photograph. The accused arrived at the station from Muzaffarabad of Bihar on Wednesday with the bundle of 100 counterfeit notes with face value of Rs 2 lakh. Vinod Nishath, a resident of Muzafarabad in Bihar revealed that the counterfeit notes was delivered to him from Bangladesh and that he boarded the train from Bihar to deliver it to one Mohammed Mehfooz Shaikh in Surat. Vinod’s mobile phone was continuously ringing and that the man on the other side was Mohammed Mehfooz Shaikh. The DRI sleuths told Vinod to answer the phone the phone and call Shaikh to the railway station. When Shaikh arrived he was arrested.
A DRI official said, “Both the accused were presented before the district sessions court for obtaining their remand They were sent to judicial custody in Lajpore central jail for 14 days.”
