Free Solo took the award circuit by storm in 2019, eventually winning the Oscar for Best Documentary and also snagging the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards for Best Sports Documentary and Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary for the movie's star, climber Alex Honnold.

In the movie, Honnold attempts to scale El Captain, a massive cliff at Yosemite National Park, in a "free solo" climb, aka, one without the use of any ropes, harnesses, or other protective equipment. And spoiler alert, he eventually does. But knowing that he makes it to the top doesn't take away from the actual nail-biting experience of watching him climb a 7,573-foot rock. It's honestly terrifying! But it makes for a compelling story to watch from the comfort (and elevation) of your own home.
