Thousands of furious footy fans missed the opening stages of Wednesday night's NRL State of Origin opener due to a live streaming technical glitch.
Channel Nine copped a barrage of abuse online from frustrated viewers unable to watch the game on their phones, desktops or laptops due to overwhelming demand.
Many claimed the live stream was working up fine right up until kick-off just after 8pm before screens went black.

Defeated NSW players weren't the only ones feeling the blues last night after thousands of NRL fans missed the first 20 minutes due to a Channel Nine live streaming bungle

There were a barrage of complaints on social media about the Origin live stream coverage
Furious fans were quick to vent their anger on social media, claiming they missed the first 20 minutes before the glitch was fixed.
'What's up with Channel Nine's 9Now live stream? The one night of year I watch your f***** channel,' one woman tweeted.
Another added: '9Now app appears to be broken. Constantly buffers and then crashes. But Spider Cam stream through the same app is working fine. I'm both annoyed and nauseous #sortit.'
The angry backlash was just as fierce on Facebook.
'About the same coverage as using a fishing net as an umbrella. This service is deplorable. Surely it’s someone’s job to ensure this platform is able to cope with excessive demand. What a joke,' one man posted.
Another added: 'What a stinking pile of s*** Channel nine! You should be ashamed of yourselves. You've got a riot on your hands if you don't fix this now.'
After a flood of complaints, Channel Nine took to Twitter to address the bungle.

Fans watching via live stream on their phone, desktop and laptop missed the first 20 minutes of Origin, which kicked off just after 8pm
'Due to unprecedented demand on 9Now, some users experienced some technical difficulties during the early stages of Game 1 and responded as quickly as possible to restore the service. We apologise for any inconvenience,' Wide World of Sports tweeted.
The apology infuriated fans even more.
'By 'technical difficulties' you mean 'missed the entire first 20 minutes'! not good enough. has already ruined the night,' one fan posted.
'Certainly not looking forward to Game 2 & 3 or the Finals if this is what Channel 9 Exclusive Coverage looks like.'

Channel Nine blamed overwhelming viewer demand for the epic fail, sparking anger

Fans claimed the live stream was working up until kick-off before screens went black
Another added: 'Love watching black screens! Hand it over to the Fox Sports guys, they'll fix it and my ears may stop bleeding.'
Others complained the same problem marred last year's Origin series.
'It's the exact same thing that happened last year. It's disgraceful, we're in 2019 and you guys can't provide the servers to stream one of the premier sporting events in the country,' one tweeted.
Another added: 'How do you get this so wrong? The numbers for origin last year are there for you to see. Use those numbers to make changes before kick off.
'Does nobody use the app the rest of the year? P*** weak excuse.'
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Nine for comment.
