AHMEDABAD: On Wednesday, chief minister Vijay Rupani will inaugurate the drive to clean the Sabarmati. He will also launch ‘Mission Million Trees’ and oversee the signing of an MOU to set up 100 charging points for electric vehicles in the city.
The Sabarmati cleaning drive was to be held on June 5; it will now run till June 9. Approximately 20,000 citizens are expected to take part in the drive.
‘Mission Million Trees’ will begin on June 20 and end on September 30. Apart from NGOs, individuals can register for the mission using the AMC-Seva app. The AMC has identified 108 plots to plant 81,144 saplings. Along the boundaries of the plots, 71,111 saplings will be planted; and 30,000 saplings will be planted on 275 road dividers.
The AMC and the city police have formed joint enforcement teams for each of the 48 wards of the corporation. Nehra said that the teams will regulate traffic, remove encroachments, nab those creating nuisance in public places, and fine people spitting on roads. On Wednesday, 48 such teams will become operational.
As for the charging points, they will be set up by Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a venture of the ministry of power, the Government of India. These will be installed under the clear air and e-mobility initiative.
