AMBALA: Gangsters lodged in Ambala Central Jail in connection with a teacher's murder case have made threatening phone calls and posted their photos on Facebook.
The teacher was shot dead on July 9 last year at Bakarpur village. The murder case is being investigated by the Haryana state crime branch.
"After the murder of the JBT teacher, Rambir, a prime witness in this case and Vijay Kumar (brother of JBT teacher) both of Baragaon village started receiving threats of dire consequences from the members of BR group if they record statements against them before the court. Following the threats, Vijay had registered complaints at Naraingarh police station on January 29 and March 9," said sources.
On the complaint of Vivek Sangwan, deputy superintendent of
Ambala jail, the Ambala police have registered two separate cases of mobile recoveries from the jail premises. A packet was recovered on Monday containing two Samsung mobile phones while another phone was recovered on Tuesday from the jail.
Vijay told TOI, "Despite my complaints, the district police did not take us seriously and a police official deployed in security of a prime witness has to lose his life after being shot dead by miscreants on Sunday. We had been giving regular inputs to the Naraingarh SHO and DSP about the members of BR group posting threatening photos on Facebook and giving us threat calls from the jail, but all went in vain. In the murder of ASI Suresh, the police have not even recorded the statements of Rambir and registered a case on the complaint of Suresh’s brother. The police officials are trying to save their skin. The jail authorities must separate the jails of these criminals to control the crime in Ambala area.”
There have been many cases when the jail authorities have recovered mobile phones from the jail premises as well as from the possessions of the inmates. The cases under the Prisons Act have also been registered at Baldev Nagar police station of the
Ambala district.
Haryana director general of prisons K Selvaraj told TOI, "We have been regularly making efforts to curb the problem of mobile recovery at Ambala jail, there are cases when mobiles are thrown from outside and we make sure that the same does not reach the prisoners. We will have to check how the gangsters are able to post photos on Facebook from jail.”
Inspector General of Prisons, Jagjit Singh said, “We will inspect these cases and instances how the inmates are posting photos from the jail premises.”
