Ludhiana: After crossing the 45-degree mark a few days ago, day temperature witnessed a fall in the city, giving the much-needed reprieve to residents from the heat wave. The bad news for residents on the weather front is that the Met department predicts dry weather to prevail in the city for the next few days.
On May 31 and June 1, the maximum temperature in the city was 45.1 and 44.1 degrees respectively, but winds and
thunderstorm on Monday night ensured that the maximum temperature on Tuesday witnessed a fall at 40.4 degrees, which is around normal. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Ludhiana on Tuesday was recorded at 25.3 degrees Celsius (a degree above normal).
As residents had some reprieve from the intense heat wave in the city recently, the Met department’s forecast predicts hot days ahead. A Met department official in Chandigarh said dry weather was likely to be witnessed in the city for the next four to five days, even as there could be intermittent clouds in the sky. He added that the day temperature may increase in the coming days, but night temperature was expected to witness a slight fall.
The Met department website, meanwhile, predicts the day temperature to rise gradually to touch 42 degrees Celsius on June 9, and the night temperature is expected to fall to 24 degrees by June 7, and continue to be at the same level until June 10.
Meanwhile, residents had some respite from the heat wave prevailing in the city recently. “The sun would throw fire last week, but thankfully, the weather has changed for the better since last night. For a change, we did not use any air conditioner for many hours last night, as the weather was better,” said Puneet Jain, a city-based businessman. “I wish the weather remains the same for the next few days, so that we enjoy some pleasant weather.”
