Ghaziabad: The
Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is planning to develop the
riverfront along the
Hindon in Raj Nagar Extension city forest to attract more visitors. Officials from the state irrigation department are scheduled to visit the site of the proposed riverfront, which will be built on the lines of the
Gomti riverfront in Lucknow, soon.
“We have already conducted a soil survey of the 4km stretch along the river where the riverfront will be developed. Officials from the irrigation department who were associated with the Gomti project will visit the site in a week’s time, and work will begin after their nod is given,” GDA vice-chairperson Kanchan Verma told TOI.
“The Hindon riverfront will use minimum concrete and will have landscaping on the either side of the river. We plan to develop a 4-km stretch with a width of about 50-100 metres on each side area of the river,” Verma added.
The city forest is spread across 100 acres along the Hindon river, and is visited by thousands of residents everyday. GDA has been been trying to introduce new facilities to attract more visitors, which include sound and light shows and a musical water fountain.
The forest is dotted with a number of gazebos and offers jeep and horse rides. A full-fledged riverfront will attract more people, officials said.
