Gold and diamond jewellery, three laptops and other valuables stolen from locked Madurai house

MADURAI: Unidentified thieves broke into a locked house in Desco Nagar at Othakadai on the outskirts of Madurai and decamped with gold and diamond jewellery and other valuables.
Police said the house belonged to Gowthaman, who is a faculty member at a pharmacy college in Saudi Arabia. Gardener K Ayyankalai of Othakadai was looking after the house. However, keys were with Gowthaman, police said.

On Sunday evening, Ayyankalai found the front door open and called up Gowthaman. Based on Gowthaman’s instructions, Ayyankalai alerted police.
Police said gold jewellery weighing 16 sovereigns and a couple of diamond jewellery kept inside a safe were stolen. Rs 10, 000 in cash, household electronic equipment, three laptops and silver utensils were also stolen.
