Four students locked up for two days, thrashed

MOHALI: Police have arrested a man for allegedly thrashing four college students and keeping them in captivity for two days in Nayagaon.
The accused has been identified as Suraj Kumar, a resident of Janta Colony, Nayagaon. His two accomplices are absconding. One of them has been identified as Rajat, a resident of Janta Colony, police said.

Police said Suraj is a drug addict. The victims are Abhishek Jagotra of Bharmaur, Himachal Pradesh (HP) Sandeep Kumar of Hamirpur (HP), Abhishek Sharma of Dharamshala (HP), and Arvind Sharma of Kangra (HP). In their complaint, they said they were returning to their homes from Khuda Ali Sher on Thursday night when they were intercepted by some miscreants. The miscreants attempted to rob them of their valuables and mobile phones. When they resisted, they were thrashed and forcefully taken to a room in Janta Colony. They were kept in captivity for two days, where they were locked and thrashed, they alleged. Somehow, they managed to flee on Sunday and reached a police station. A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC was registered at the Nayagaon police station.
On Monday, a local court remanded the accused in judicial custody.
