UGC hike JRF and SRF fellowship

ALLAHABAD: The University Grant Commission (UGC) has decided to hike the fellowship amount provided under the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) scheme of UGC.
In a notification on June 3, the apex decision making body of higher education in the country has decided to hike the rate of JRF from the existing Rs 25000 per month to 31000 and in case of SRF, the same has been hiked from Rs 28000 to Rs 35000 per month.
Once a student qualifies for these fellowship through NET (National Eligibility Test), UGC provides JRF for a period of Two years and SRF for Three years.
The revised rates of fellowship amount under the UGC Scheme for Junior Research Fellowship/Senior Research Fellowship in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (UGC-NET),” was approved in the 539th meeting of UGC held on February 26, 2019 and the notification of the same was issued on June 3.
In the notice, signed by UGC Secretary, Rajnish Jain, the revised amount of fellowships are applicable with effect from January 1, 2019.
In addition to this, the research scholars would also be getting an enhanced HRA. Accordingly, the HRA at the revised rate of 8%, 16% and 24% is allowed as per Government of India norms as applicable in the location where the research fellows are working.
Likewise, in case of Allahabad University, a JRF who was getting an amount of Rs 30,000 will now be getting an amount of Rs 35960 (31,000 plus 16% HRA). Likewise, a SRF at AU would now get Rs 40,600.
UGC notice also mentions that, the other terms and conditions will remain same as per the UGC XII Plan JRF guidelines.
AU PRO, Chitranjan said, “AU would follow the directives of the UGC and the monthly fellowship of all the JRF and SRF would be hiked”.
