Minutes after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others began eating at an iftar around on Monday, the time at which Muslims break their day-long fast, BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta fed a snack to Mr. Kejriwal, as the latter smiled at the cameras facing the table.
The duo, often seen attacking each other over different issues, then addressed the media together.
The iftar was hosted by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is the Chairman of Urdu Academy of the Delhi government.
“I have told this earlier and after wishing the Prime Minister, I had said that we should work together for Delhi’s development,” Mr. Kejrwial told the media.
“This is an event of love. So it will be better if we do not link it to politics and I request the media to do the same,” Mr. Gupta said.
When asked about Mr. Kejriwal’s announcement earlier in the day about free rides for women in DTC buses and Delhi metro, Mr. Gupta said, “This is not the right place to talk about it. We will meet somewhere outside tomorrow and talk about it.”
Mr. Gupta, however, did not leave without taking a jibe at Mr. Kejriwal when asked about the tussle between the AAP government and the Centre. “I have been telling Kejriwal ji, from the first day, ‘jhagda chodo [stop fighting]’ for Delhi’s good. But it is their strategy... cannot call it a conspiracy, but it is their strategy. There is still time,” he said.
The event was also attended by BJP MLA O.P. Sharma and AAP Ministers, including Manish Sisodia, Kailash Gahlot and Imran Hussain.
