Schools across the State commenced classes on Monday, after the summer vacation. While all government and government-aided schools began classes for the new academic year, several private schools commenced classes only for the higher classes.
Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan said that despite concerns over the weather and availability of water, it was necessary to commence classes so that adequate time and attention could be given to the new syllabus. The revised curriculum has been implemented in Classes II to V, VII, VIII, X and Plus Two for the current academic year.
“We need at least 220 working days to ensure that the syllabus is covered and even now, we will get only 210 working days. Teachers and students need enough time,” he said.
