“iOS 13 ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature will automatically silence calls from unknown numbers and even send them directly to voicemail”

Apple finally introduced the iOS 13 at the WWDC developers conference yesterday. The latest iOS release brings the much-anticipated dark mode, Siri improvements, new AR experiences, Screen Time enhancements and more. That’s not all, in a move to tackle spam calls, Apple has introduced a new feature to keep users at peace. The ‘Silence Unknown Callers’ feature will automatically silence calls from unknown numbers and even send them directly to voicemail. This option can be toggled on/off from the settings depending on users’ preference. 

Explaining the feature, Apple in a blog post said, “A new setting protects users from unknown and spam callers. When the setting is turned on, iOS uses Siri intelligence to allow calls to ring your phone from numbers in Contacts, Mail, and Messages. All other calls are automatically sent to voicemail.” Furthermore, Apple claims that iOS 13 will use Siri intelligence to allow calls only from saved contacts, Mail and Messages. It makes sense to believe; these calls won’t even pop up on your screen as regular calls do. The iOS 13 might still record these calls just in case if it is an emergency.

As for the other iOS features, Apple has finally introduced ‘Dark Mode’ for iPhones with iOS 13, along with new features such as voice control, a swiping keyboard, a revamped Reminders app, and improved Apple Maps. Dark Mode, iOS 13 will show a dark theme in the News, Calendar, Notes, iMessages, Photos, Share Sheet, and Music apps Like its previous iterations, iOS 13 will be headed to iPhones this fall. iOS 13 will support iPhone 6s and above as well as the new 7th get iPod touch.
