Kia Confirms Its New Small Crossover Will Be Named The “Seltos”

Kia has announced that its new small SUV will be dubbed the ‘Seltos’ – which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to our regular readers, as the upcoming crossover was snapped undisguised and with its logos on full display during a recent commercial shoot.

In a statement, the South Korean car manufacturer says the name is inspired by Greek mythology and the legend of Celtos, the son of Hercules, though it decided to change the ‘C’ to ‘S’ to (ahem…) represent the vehicle’s speed and sportiness. Doing so also “brings the name in line with Kia’s Sportage and Sorento SUVs.”

Kia claims it has designed the Seltos with millennials in mind, so it combines eye-catching styling with generous space into a compact package. Features confirmed in the brief press release include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Sound Mood Lighting.

The design of the Seltos was previewed earlier this year with the SP Concept – and the duo look virtually identical. Our spy photographers have yet to catch a glimpse of the interior, but Kia released four sketches of the interior last month.

Not only did these sketches show off the aforementioned infotainment screen but they also reveal the crossover will include a small central display in the gauge cluster, a three-spoke steering wheel, multi-colored dashboard, and a selection of different driving modes.

The Kia Seltos will make its online premiere later this month before sales in Korea and other markets around the world commence in the second half of the year.
