Trump's UK tour wades into Brexit fallout

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYING: ''You are a tremendous professional and a person who loves your country dearly.

Really an honour.'' He's often been critical of British Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit strategy.

But on day two of his state visit to the UK, U.S. President Donald Trump had plenty of positive things to say.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYING: ''That deal is teed up.

I think that deal is really teed up.

I think they have to do something.

Perhaps you won't be given the credit you deserve if they do something, but I think you deserve a lot of credit.

I really do.

I think you deserve a lot of credit.'' It's the same deal that's been voted down multiple times already in parliament.

Trump also promised a quote, ''phenomenal,'' trade deal with the UK if Brexit finally happens.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYING: ''There is tremendous potential in that trade deal.'' During the conference, he glossed over even the most sensitive issues such as Huawei.

And was even diplomatic about May's potential successors, after he previously endorsed one of her fiercest critics.

She is resigning on Friday (June 7).

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYING: ''I know Boris, I like him, I've liked him for a long time.

I think he'd do a very good job.

I know Jeremy, I think he'd do a good job.

I don't know Michael.

Would he do a good job Jeremy?

Tell me.'' Meanwhile, thousands of people gathered in central London to protest Trump's presence in the country - in what organizers dubbed the ''Carnival of Resistance." But he wasn't fazed.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYING: ''I said where are the protests, I don't see any protests.

I did see a small protest today, very small, So, a lot of it is fake news.'' May praised the "precious and profound" alliance between the U.S. and the UK, but said friends could also be open where they disagreed - such as on the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate agreement.
