Another day, another old show coming back from the dead.
Today brings news of a Punky Brewster revival. According to Deadline, Universal Cable Productions is developing a sequel series to the 1984 sitcom with the original Punky, Soleil Moon Frye, returning to the role that made her an '80s icon.
The original series was created by David W. Duclon and centered on Punky, a clever young girl raised by a foster dad named Henry Warnimont, played by the late George Gaynes. In the revival, grown-up Punky is now a single mother of three trying to get a fresh start when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self, according to Deadline. The original Punky Brewster was a multi-camera sitcom, but the revival will be a multi/single-cam hybrid.

The sequel, also to be called Punky Brewster, will be written and executive-produced by Grounded for Life's Steve and Jim Armogida. Frye will also executive-produce.
No network is attached yet, as the show is still in development. Should it get picked up, it will join a flood of '80s sitcom reboots and revivals, some of which have since been canceled, including Roseanne, Murphy Brown, and Full House.
