Jeopardy champ's streak ends just shy of record

NATS: JEOPARDY THEME SONG For 32-consecutive games, James Holzhauer blew out his competitors on Jeopardy, racking up more than two million dollars in winnings.

NATS: HOLZHAUER ON GAME SHOW But the Las Vegas sports bettor's winning streak came to an end Monday -- about 58-thousand dollars shy of the game show's all-time money record set by Ken Jennings in 2004.

Take care, so long." Emma Boettcher, a University of Chicago librarian, beat Holzhauer by correctly answering a question about authors.

SOUNDBITE: JAMES HOLZHAUER, SAYING: "I think my feeling was if I had to go out I wanted to go out against a top player who beat me in a straight up contest and not because I made a silly mistake here or that and that was really great." During his time on Jeopardy, Holzhauer averaged 77-thousand dollars in winnings per game.

He set a host of records including the most money won in a single episode 15 times and played 11 perfect games with no wrong answers.

The Jeopardy whiz also helped raise the game show's ratings to a 14-year high.
