Vadodara: A 24-year-old married woman committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at her house in Fatehpura area on Monday evening.
Tejal Shinde was found hanging by her husband Sanjay, a welder, when he came home after she did not answer numerous calls he made to her. The couple was married for six years and they did not have children.
On Tuesday, Tejal’s parents and relatives who came from Jalgaon alleged that she took the drastic step due to harassment Sanjay and his family members for not bearing children. Based on their complaint, Warasia police booked Sanjay, his mother Sushila and sister Mangla for abetment of suicide.
On Monday, when Warasia police recorded the statement of Sanjay, he said that Tejal had slipped into severe depression after their pet dog ‘Tiger’, a German Shepherd, died on June 1 due to liver and kidney ailments.
Police sources said that Sanjay had even promised to get her a new pup as a pet and asked her to come to his welding workshop on Monday evening.
Warasia police sources said that when they went to record their statements on Monday, Tejal’s parents had denied the role of Sanjay in the suicide and said that she was very attached to the pet dog. Therefore, a case of accidental death was lodged.
However, it was on Tuesday that they made accusations against Sanjay and his family after which a complaint of abetment to suicide was lodged.
Sources said that the house in which the couple was staying was built with the help of Tejal’s parents.
