Body found in pond in Kalamboli

The Kalamboli police have arrested the boyfriend of a woman whose body was found in a pond near Balkeshwar temple on May 24.

The body was identified as that of Suvarna Namdev Kadam (35) after her relatives filed a missing person’s complaint. Senior police inspector Satish Gaikwad said, “Her relatives, who live in Devicha pada, identified the body. They told us she knew swimming and could not have drowned. She worked as a house help and was living alone for the past two years in Khidukpada.” Kadam was separated from her husband and her children lived with her brother.

The police learnt that Kadam was having an affair with Ram Ganpat Bhoir (38). Mr. Gaikwad said, “On May 23, he accidentally entered the wrong flat instead of Kadam’s, inviting the ire of neighbours.” CCTV footage showed the two leaving in Mr. Bhoir’s tempo, but only Mr. Bhoir returned and he was shirtless. Their call data records showed they were together in the intervening night of May 23 and 24.

Mr. Gaikwad said, “We nabbed Mr. Bhoir on May 31 and he confessed to the crime.” On May 23, Mr. Bhoir had asked Kadam to meet him near Khidukpada tempo naka. He bought alcohol and drove her to an open ground near the pond. They then consumed alcohol and had sex. When Kadam refused Mr. Bhoir’s demand to have sex again, he pushed her into the pond around 1.30 a.m. Mr. Gaikwad said, “Since she was drunk, she probably could not swim. To destroy evidence, Mr. Bhoir threw her clothes into the pond and left. A few hours later, he visited the spot again to make sure she had drowned.”
