People of Virudhunagar district have been asked to make the most of Jamabandhi that began on Tuesday for getting revenue records for their properties and also for getting basic amenities in their area.
District Revenue Officer, K. Udhayakumar, who holds additional charge as District Collector, who chaired the jamabandhi or annual revenue audit at Sivakasi said that the petitions submitted by the people would be promptly processed and their demands would be met at the earliest.
People holding agricultural land can apply seeking details like patta, chitta and andangal. Villagers can also submit petitions seeking to rectify various problems in basic amenities like drinking water, irrigation channels, cremation yards, sewerage, he said.
People without land holding can apply for free housing patta, people who have plots can apply seeking Government loans and subsidies for construction of houses.
Villagers can also seek ration cards, pension for destitute women and old age and free insurance and drought relief, Mr. Udhayakumar said.
A total of 75 petitions seeking various documents and facilities were received on Tuesday. Orders for eligible people of Sivakasi Taluk would be given on June 20.
The DRO said that jamabandhi would be conducted by the Collector in Aruppukottai Taluk till June 14. It would be conducted in Sivakasi, Vembakottai, Sattur and Rajapalayam till June 12, Virudhunagar taluk till June 14, Tiruchuli till 18, Kariyapatti till June 13, Srivilliputtur till June 7 and Watrap till June 6.
The objective of jamabandhi is to audit the records pertaining to land and crop maintained by village administrative officers, revenue inspectors and officials of the Department of Statistics.
Sivakasi Tahsildar Vanathi and other Government officials were present.
