Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (
KIIFB) has approved 19 new
projects worth Rs 1,424.833 crore. The new projects include Rs 289.54-crore Kuttanad drinking water project and Rs 206.96-crore Thiruvananthapuram-Neyyar alternative drinking water source project.
The KIIFB director board, which met here on Tuesday, gave the nod to four mega drinking water projects, which also include improvements to water supply scheme of Kondotty municipality in Malappuram district Phase II (Rs 108.70 crore) and balance works of augmentation and modernisation of water supply distribution system in Alappuzha municipality (Rs 211.71 crore).
Meanwhile, the KIIFB executive committee which met on Monday approved 15 other projects, mainly hospitals, railway overbridges and stadiums across the state, with a total estimate of Rs 607.923 crore. The projects also included another drinking water project in Etumanoor in Kottayam district (Rs 93.23 crore) and Pathanapuram-Eanath road in Kollam district (Rs 66.16 crore)
“Till today, KIIFB has sanctioned 552 projects in various sectors worth Rs 29,455.71, besides Rs 14,275.17 crore for acquisition of land for various industrial parks, making it a total of Rs 43,730.88 crore,” state finance minister T M Thomas Isaac told reporters after the director board meeting.
The newly sanctioned amount, he said, also included Rs 270 crore for hospitals at Kottarakkara, Karunagappally and Mattannur and Rs 80 crore for stadiums at Muvattupuzha, Idukki, Tirur and Feroke (Kozhikode). Railway over-bridges are being constructed at Nangiarkulangara in Alappuzha district, Nandikkara in Thrissur and Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam district. Isaac said that the projects would be implemented in a time-bounded manner and that he expected the Kuttanad water supply scheme to be completed in one year.
The minister also said that the KIIFB was mobilizing funds through domestic and foreign bonds and through term loans from banks and other financial institutions. “We expect to mobilise Rs 5,000 crore through Pravasi Chitty by next year. Loans have been availed at interest rates starting from 3.5% to 9.7%, at an average of 9%,” he added. tnn
