Five persons were killed when in two incidents of lightning strike as heavy rain lashed some parts of Kalaburagi district on Monday.

Gomu Rathod (32), Suresh Pawar (30) and Yuvaraj (24), all residents of Madbol Tanda in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district, died when lightning struck them while they were working in a field. Seenabai (35) suffered burns in the incident.

In the other incident, Suresh Sherkhani (18) and Abdul Gani Ladlesaab (13) of Aland town in Kalaburagi district died after being struck by lightning. Two persons who suffered burns in the incident have been admitted to the taluk hospital.

Fourteen sheep of four farmers also died when lightning struck them. Cases have been registered in Madbol and Aland police stations.
