KOCHI: A positive case of Nipah virus has been confirmed in Kerala on Tuesday. A 23-year-old youth from Kochi's Ernakulam was tested positive in the results that came from Pune Virology Institute, state health minister KK Shailaja said.
All the necessary steps to contain the situation were being taken, she said.

Another person has been shifted to isolation ward at Ernakulam Medical College as the patient had fever and sore throat. Health officials are getting him tested as well.
Meanwhile, two nurses who are treating the patient at a private hospital, also complained of sore throat and fever.

Central government has granted permission to provide the yet-unapproved human monoclonal antibody (hmAb), considered to have the potential to reduce mortality among Nipah infected (NiV) patients, to Kerala.
The medicine will be given to patients as per ICMR protocol.
