Patna: Retired PU professor among 2 killed in car accident in Kankarbagh

PATNA: Two persons, including a retired Patna University professor Dr Lal Narayan Sharma (78), were killed while his driver was injured after the car in which he was travelling collided with southern roundabout of the Rajendra Nagar flyover under Kankarbagh police station area in Patna on Tuesday morning.
The second deceased person had been identified as Tunnu Sharma (40) who was an auto-rickshaw driver.
Kankarbagh police station SHO Ashok Kumar Gupta said that the retired professor was travelling in a chauffer-driven car when it dashed the auto-rickshaw driver who was crossing the road.
“After dashing Tunnu, the car collided with the roundabout damaging it badly. The retired professor along with his driver Raghunath Singh (60) and Tunnu were badly injured in the accident,” he said.
All three were rushed to different private hospitals but expect the driver, rest two succumbed to their injuries sustained during the accident.
Meanwhile, an FIR was lodged against the car driver for reckless driving leading to homicide on basis of written complaint of Tunnu’s brother Laxman Sharma with the Traffic police station at Gandhi Maidan.
Traffic police station SHO Arun Kumar said that Tunnu was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for further treatment where he died during treatment at around 3pm.

“The retired professor had also died during treatment within few hours of accident. However, family had taken his body to residence at Lal Kothi under Kankarbagh police station area. A police team, after receiving information, was sent at the residence from where the body was taken to PMCH for conducting post mortem along with Tunnu’s body,” he said adding both the bodies were later handed over to their respective family members.
SHO Kumar said Tunnu was resident of road number 15 at Kankarbagh Baghicha under Patrakar Nagar police station area in the city.
