2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe Shows Its Muscles On German Roads

Mercedes-AMG continues the development of the fire-breathing GLE 63 in Germany, where a slightly less camouflaged Coupe test car was spotted on public roads.

The flagship AMG 63 variant of the new Mercedes GLE is distinguished by the Panamericana grille, the wider fenders, an exclusive set of aggressive bumpers with plenty of air intakes, four square exhaust tips and a massive set of wheels. Even under wraps, AMG’s upcoming coupe crossover oozes presence on the road.

Power will be delivered by AMG’s go-to powertrain, mirroring the lineup of the E 63; a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 563hp (571PS) and 553lb-ft (750Nm) of torque in the ‘base’ 63 and 603hp (612PS) and 627lb-ft (850Nm) of torque in the GLE 63 S.

With so much firepower under the bonnet, the new Mercedes AMG GLE 63 is expected to break the 4.0-second barrier for the standard 0-62mph (100km/h) procedure, at least in the more powerful S derivative.

The new generation of the Mercedes GLE is already one of the most tech-laden players in the segment, with the highlights including the advanced E-Active Body Control air suspension that operates through the vehicle’s 48-volt electrical system. It will certainly be interesting to see what tricks AMG is going to apply chassis-wise in order to button down the big crossover.

The cabin will be also spiced up with unique touches and materials, including body-hugging seats, model-specific drive modes and plenty of carbon-fiber detailing all around.

And who knows, with AMG reportedly working on a 800hp plug-in hybrid powertrain based on the 4.0-liter V8, Mercedes’ contribution to the unnecessary fast SUV genre might not stop with the GLE 63.
