Nagpur: A state level executive meet held by the Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra
Industry and
Trade (CAMIT) discussed issues related to local body tax (
LBT), Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (
APMC) Act, FDI in retail, online trade, amnesty scheme under VAT and Mathadi laws. The meet was attended by delegates from across the state.
On local body tax (LBT), it was pointed out that businessmen were facing harassment by officials in the name of tax assessment. Even as the tax has been abolished since August 2016 the harassment under the pretext of earlier assessment continues, said delegates.
On the APMC laws, it was discussed that traders were facing issues related to APMC Act and market cess. The very motive of APMC Act has been defeated as most of the trade takes place outside the market boundaries now. Those conducting business outside APMC area are being unnecessarily harassed which is against the state policy of allowing ease of business, pointed out the delegates.
On Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail and online trade, it was discussed that malls and e-commerce website have made it tough for small and medium enterprises. There is no level playing field for traditional business establishments.
The delegates were also briefed about the VAT Amnesty scheme by Dipen Agrawal from Nagpur. Concerns were raised over harassment of traders over enforcement of Mathadi laws meant for the protection of those engaged in heavy physical labour.
