Audi surprised the automotive world with the consistent facelift given to the A4/S4 family last month. We can only hope the RS4 Avant will get a similar treatment for its mid-life makeover.
We spied the 2020 Audi RS4 Avant during the winter season and now we have some fresh photos of the high-performance estate model to show you. While the camouflage is largely the same, our photographers managed to get closer than ever to the facelifted RS4, giving us our best look yet at Audi Sport’s upcoming model.
As with the revised A4 and S4 models, the RS4 Avant will gain new LED headlights and taillights, as well as a newly-designed three-dimensional grille — with big honeycomb inserts for the high-performance wagon. The bumpers will have unique designs on the RS4 and that will be most obvious at the rear end which will be dominated by a diffuser flanked by the signature oval tailpipes.
Other typical RS4 design cues will include the flared fenders and haunches, the lower ride height, and the unique alloy wheel models. The interior isn’t expected to bring radical changes although Audi will upgrade the MMI infotainment system with the latest version unveiled on the facelifted A4/S4.
This will brings a bigger centrally mounted touchscreen with revised graphics and menus that no longer features a control knob on the center console. Obviously, the RS4 will also benefit from the new driver assistance systems that debuted in the 2020 A4, including the adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function for automatic distance control and predictive efficiency assist.
As for the powertrain, the facelifted RS4 Avant isn’t expected to bring any significant changes — unless Audi Sport engineers find a way to boost power and reduce emissions at the same time. Expect the same 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 450 PS (444 hp) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque in the current RS4.
Hooked to a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, the V6 enables the wagon to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds and top out at 280km/h (174mph) with the optional RS Dynamics Package.
