Rajkot: A student of MP Shah Government Medical College in Jamnagar has filed complaint with the dean against two final-year MBBS students alleging that he was subjected to ragging.
The college has provided him security and recorded the statements of all the three students. The anti-ragging squad will meet on June 6 to decide on this complaint. However, authorities suspect that all the three students violated the college and hostel rules and disciplinary actions may be taken against them.
According to officials, all three students study in the same batch. The complainant Parth Rathod, being a resident of Jamnagar, is not eligible for hostel accommodation as per the rules. However, he was staying with mutual understanding in somebody’s room.
In his complaint, Rathod alleged that Dhaval Nandha, a resident of Mangrol and Nayan Karamta a resident of Botad, thrashed him and threw his luggage out of hostel room. He claimed that out of fear, he did not reveal the incident to anyone.
When contacted, college Dean Dr Nandini Desai said, “According to the rules, the college doesn’t provide hostel facility to a local person. Parth was a resident of Jamnagar but he was living in somebody’s room with mutual understanding. The dispute between the students was over room allotment whose process is still going on.”
“We have recorded the statements of the students and there was a harsh reaction from both sides. We may take disciplinary action as per college and hostel rules against all of them,” she said.
The college has also called the parents of all three students for the June 6 meeting when the anti-ragging committee will also meet.
