HC asks KCZMA, Collector to look into violations

The Kerala Coastal Zone Management Authority and the Ernakulam District Collector have been directed by the Kerala High Court to inspect the reported encroachments along the Chilavannor lake in the city.

It was on a petition seeking directions to the authorities to appoint a survey team and to curb the encroachment of the lake that the court issued the order.

The petitioner, Cheshire Tarzan, submitted that the human interference had upset the ecology of the lake. Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) violations went unabated in the area. The local bodies in the region were showing callous indifference in protecting the lake, the petitioner submitted.
