Top cop: PSI accidentally fired 3 rounds

Vadodara: In connection with the firing by probationary sub-inspector of Makarpura police station that injured a man, the police on Tuesday said that the cop fired accidentally from his pistol in Tarsali late on Monday night. In fact, a case of rioting, assault, dacoity, deterring and assaulting a public servant and criminal intimidation was also registered against unidentified persons at Makarpura police station on basis of the complaint lodged by sub-inspector S V Chudasama.
“Cops take out gun as the last resort, but this was a very rare incident as the firing took place accidentally,” said commissioner of police, Anupam Singh Gahlaut.
In his complaint Chudasama said that he saw around five men sitting near a paan shop and ‘possibly’ consuming alcohol while on his way home from duty. He stopped his bike and went up to them to ask for alcohol permit. Since he was in civil dress, one of the five persons questioned his rights to ask for their permits. When he identified himself as a sub-inspector, the man gave a dismissive answer and all the five of them started abusing him.
The cop further alleged that they then held him by the throat and pushed him towards the road and also started beating him up. They tore Chudasama’s shirt and one of them even pulled out his loaded Glock pistol fixed on his waist. Fearing that he would be shot, Chudasama tried to hold the person’s hand and within no time four rounds were accidentally fired from it, of which three bullets hit one of them identified as Simit Prajapati.

Chudasama then said that all the five men, including Prajapati, left the spot. Chudasama also left the spot and after informing inspector H M Ramavat of Makarpura police station, got admitted at the SSG Hospital from where he filed his complaint.
Prajapati was also admitted at a private hospital in Makapura. Police said that once he gains consciousness, they will take his complaint too.
