After completing all the necessary online registration formalities, the Department of Technical Education (DOTE), which will be conducting the counselling for students seeking admissions to engineering colleges in the State, has released random numbers for the candidates.

Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan said that the random numbers would be sent to the students through SMS
Chennai:
Pointing out that the numbers would be the key to rank students with the same cut-off marks, the Minister said that the number would also be used for seat allotment for the students.
He said a total of 1,72,148 seats were available for the students in as many as 494 colleges across the State. “Of the total available seats, the government quota stands 1,42,755”, he said adding this year a total of 29,393 additional government quota seats were available.
He also stated that the students could visit 43 facilitation centres that have been set up across the State for certificate verification from June 7 and the government has initiated measures to set up three additional centres in Chennai.
“After publishing the rank list on June 17, the counselling will begin from July 3 and go on till 28,” he said. This year the Department of Technical Education would be conducting counselling for students seeking engineering seats.
The decision of DOTE to conduct counselling came after Anna University Vice Chancellor M K Surappa and the Higher Education Department held different views over the reconstitution of TNEA committee.
Action against malpractice will continue
“Investigation is under way and those guilty will be punished and dismissed from the services”, he said adding that the government would continue to monitor the activities of all the institutions across the state to ensure there were no misconducts of any nature in any department. “A few people have been arrested. Since the investigation is in the second stage, the government will act accordingly”, he added.
Emphasising that the student’s welfare was the priority of the government, the Minister said that the authorities were instructed to act immediately on any complaint lodged by students.
