'You're not entitled to anything': Waiter whinges online after a group racks up a $4,000 tab but doesn't leave a tip - before being mocked mercilessly

  • Sydney waiter copped backlash after complaining about not receiving tip
  • Hospitality worker had organised meal for 68 people that cost nearly $4,000
  • He took to a Facebook group to air his frustration but received no sympathy
  • Social media users even defended group of patrons calling the food overpriced

A waiter has failed to attract any sympathy after objecting to a group of patrons who spent nearly $4,000 on a meal and didn't leave a tip afterwards.

The Sydney hospitality worker made the complaint on social media after serving the group of nearly 70 people on Sunday.

'How much would you expect from a 68-person function where everything went smoothly and guests said they were over the moon with how great it was?' the outraged worker posted.

'I had a function which I had been planning with the guests for four months leave $0 tips and it really left a rotten taste in my mouth.'

Attached to the post was a snapshot of the hefty bill of $3,921.50.

'Surely a $4k bill deserves at least $5?' he wrote.

Though rather than draw any sympathy, outraged social media users have slammed the bartender for his unrealistic expectation.

'Tips don’t exist anymore,' one person commented.

'Time to find new career options, hospitality was worth the pain for one hot minute in the late 90s.'

Another person wrote: ‘C’mon man, don’t you have a salary?’

Other social media users even defended the patrons on the basis the food had been overpriced.

'We don’t really know how over the moon they were. Just your word. It really shouldn’t take four months to organise a function of 68 people,' one person said.

'Yeah, it’s a $4k bill, which I bet added up quickly when you’re overcharging for kids' pizzas.

'This isn’t a personal attack. But you’re literally asking for a tip for doing your job. The product is what you sell, the service is part of your job. It’s hospitality. It’s not a forced occupation, but it’s the nature of the beast.'

Another person said: 'You're not entitled to a tip.'
