Panaji: Quelossim locals object power tariff hike move PANAJI: Members of the Quelossim gram sabha opposed the hike in electricity consumption in lieu of abolition of the street light tax at the meet held on Sunday.

Sarpanch Maria D’Souza took up the issue of a circular issued by the government urging a resolution to be passed to abolish the annual light tax. At present, an amount of Rs 10 is collected from house owners to defray cost of village street lighting.

The second part of the circular urged the gram sabha to pass another resolution to urge the government to increase the tariff on power by 3 paise for individual consumers.

Members, however, opposed this stating that it was exorbitant. They demanded time to study the matter.

Among the other issues discussed were that of barricading a narrow road with a steep slope which is being used by heavy vehicles despite warnings and that of access to the bund on the Zuari river front being blocked by the Mini India park project .
