PUNE: Pimpri Chinchwad police on Monday registered an offence against the office bearers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Pimpri Chinchwad region for allegedly organising a rally (shobha yatra) without prior permission.
The women participated in the rally were brandishing swords and air rifles. An offence under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act and Mumbai Police Act has been registered against the office bearers and about 200 participants.
The police said that the VHP’s western Maharashtra region has organised Durga Vahini Shourya Prashikshan (training) camp for the women members in Nigdi. “As the part of the training programme, a rally was organised on Sunday evening in Nigdi area,” said D S Kokate, sub-inspector of the Nigdi police.

He said that the organisers did not obtain permission from the police. Moreover, Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner has issued a prohibitory order for assembly in public and use of arms. “Despite that the rally was organised. Four women in the rally were carrying air rifles. They were pressing triggers which led to a sound like firing coming from it,” Kokate said.
He said that five girls in the rally were also carrying swords. “We have launched a probe in the case. No one has been arrested so far,” Kokate said.
