CHENNAI: The
DMK on Monday asked the Centre not to play with the sentiments of Tamil people by imposing
Hindi on the state. The party said if Hindi was imposed on
Tamil Nadu, it would launch a massive protest against the Centre.
“If the Centre tries to change the two-language formula at any time, the DMK will go on a massive protest in a democratic way," said a resolution passed at a meeting of party MPs, MLAs and district secretaries here.
The resolution against the three-language formula was passed even as the Centre made changes to the draft new education policy according to which Hindi will not be forced on non-Hindi speaking states.
The meeting was attended by party’s 101 MLAs and 19 Lok Sabha and three Rajya Sabha members. The meeting was held on the 95th birth anniversary of late party chief
M Karunanidhi.
A total of six resolutions were passed in the meeting. One of the resolutions asked the state government to immediately solve the drinking water problem faced by people in the state.
The meeting also wanted the government to drop all hydrocarbon projects in Cauvery delta districts as they would affect agriculture.
Other resolutions asked the MPs and MLAs to follow in the footsteps of late chief minister M Karunanidhi and praised party president M K Stalin for having won 38 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the DMK alliance.
