At the start of the sixth season of this English period crime drama, policeman Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans) is not in a happy place. Demoted to the rank of sergeant and back in uniform, he's overseeing a small country station. He's stoic, but at a loose end and his interest in Joan (Sara Vickers), the daughter of DI Fred Thursday (Roger Allam), remains unreciprocated.When a young girl goes missing, he's treated with dismissive contempt by most of the arrogant detectives assigned to the case. But we see that he's the superior copper: astute, attentive to detail, alert to anomalies and resistant to easy answers. Using characters created by Colin Dexter, these engaging telemovie whodunits relish in the detail of the late '60s as they investigate the early career of the man who would become Inspector Morse.
