STORY: Dominic Thiem said he wanted to move on from a row involving Serena Williams after he was asked to interrupt a post-match news conference to make room for the American following her French Open defeat.

The Austrian fourth seed was talking to the media after his third-round win on Saturday (June 1) and Williams, who had just lost in straight sets to compatriot Sofia Kenin, was pushing organisers to give her a room right away.

"Put me in another room, a smaller one, but now," she said, without asking to be directed to the main room where Thiem was speaking.

Organisers made Thiem move out and the Austrian was fuming at being treated like "a junior".

However, on Monday (June 3), Thiem, who had just beaten Gael Monfils 6-4 6-4 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, said it was a bit understandable why Williams might have wanted the news conference to finish quickly as she had just lost.

The Austrian also said he did not want to 'pay any attention' to the incident anymore.

Thiem, who is fourth seed at the French Open and widely regarded as the man standing between a final showdown between world number one Novak Djokovic and 11-times champion Rafael Nadal, wiped 14th seed Monfils off Court Philippe Chatrier in expeditious fashion.

He will next face either Russian Karen Khachanov or Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro for a place in the last four, where he could meet Serbian Djokovic.
