Custom Land Rover Defender Convertible Has ‘Vette V8 Power, Whole Lotta Kit

East Coast Defender (ECD) has managed to grab our attention yet again with their latest creation. Project Desert Storm is a custom Land Rover Defender with a convertible body style and a multitude of upgrades.

Powering it is a Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter LS3 V8 hooked up to a 6-speed automatic transmission and fitted with a Borla exhaust system.

The tuner’s D90 SUV also features steel bumpers, a front winch, full-length side steps that facilitate ingress and egress, a steering guard, LED spotlights and protection against branches and other objects. It rides on a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, signed by Kahn as part of their Mondial Retro series, that are wrapped in all-terrain BFGoodrich tires, and also sports a lift kit.

Inside, the Corris Grey-finished Defender can sit two at the front on the Puma Classic seats, and four at the back on the inward-facing jump seats. The red and black leather trim, with red stitching, dominates the cabin, and there’s also a Momo Prototipo steering wheel, in black leather with red stitching, and red gauges.

Elsewhere, occupants will keep themselves busy courtesy of the Sony infotainment and JL Audio sound system with a subwoofer. The wireless charging for compatible mobile devices, Wi-Fi, reversing camera, keyless entry, LED lighting and others are also part of the comprehensive upgrade package.

This is one of the most complete tuning jobs for the British SUV offered by ECD. It certainly beats the one they revealed only last month, named the Project Soho, which was also powered by a ‘Vette V8 and had a ton of gizmos as well, though it’s nowhere as impressive as the Desert Storm.

Can’t help but wonder what they will come up with next – if they do, that is, as one-upping this one will require something truly extraordinary.
