‘Share info on HRD portal for getting RUSA funds’

Thiruvananthapuram: The state project directorate of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) has urged universities and colleges in Kerala to share their institutional details with the Union ministry of human resources development as a prerequisite for seeking various funds from RUSA.
According to the Kerala state project directorate of RUSA, government, aided colleges and universities with and without NAAC accreditation can seek funding under RUSA third phase, which is set to roll this academic year. Only institutes which have not received funds from RUSA during the previous two phases would be eligible. The scheme aims to improve the quality of higher education in the country.
Applicants are supposed to upload their institutional detail on the HRD portal — https://nheremis.tiss.edu/ — which is mandatory for institutions seeking funds. The state project directorate would clarify any doubts regarding how to upload the information, RUSA state project co-ordinator Biveesh U C said.

The state government had recently approved the state higher education council report on functioning of autonomous colleges in the state. It has been decided that the government would not deny approval to aided colleges for seeking academic autonomy, but the same would be given subject to strict conditions, most of which have been elaborately laid down in the higher education council report.
The government has engaged the council for submitting suggestions on the changes to the made in the university laws. Through a set of amendments, the government would be trying to strengthen universities’ control over autonomous colleges.
