The Trump administration has scrapped the preferential trade treatment for India which impacts export worth $6.4 billion – broadly amounting to 12 percent of the Indian total exports to the USA. As per Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), this step removes duty-free benefits amounting to $290 million annually which though translates to just 5 percent of the duty-free exports but in terms of export competitiveness can have a huge implication. It impacts a wide number of sectors, prominent ones are from the engineering and chemical value chain.
