Asks govt. if any major study done before implementing Khader panel report

Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala on Monday sought clarifications from the State government on 20 points on the decision to implement the M.A. Khader Committee report on general education reforms.

Mr. Chennithala wanted to know whether the State government had conducted any major study prior to its decision to merge the higher secondary and school education sectors under the Director of General Education, particularly on its impact on the quality of education.

He was also concerned about the confusion that is likely to arise when the Central government went ahead with the implementation of the National Education Policy.

The recommendation to redraw the qualification of high secondary teachers would wreck the general education sector, not to mention the complications that might arise when uniform examinations were conducted. Similarly, the move to simplify the NCERT syllabus and go in for Malayalam textbooks would come as a major setback to students at the national level. In fact, the academic issues should have been taken up along with the structural changes.
