Late last month, Xiaomi launched its flagship killer, the Redmi K20 Pro in China. The company also launched the standard Redmi K20 alongside the phones, but did not reveal when these devices would be coming to India despite teasers around that at the time of OnePlus 7 launch. Luckily, the suspense is now over, as Xiaomi has officially announced that the phones would be coming to India in the next six weeks. The Redmi K20 Pro will be taking on the recently launched OnePlus 7 Pro in terms of pricing and features.
Manu Kumar Jain, the Xiaomi Global Vice President and India MD, posted a tweet announcing the launch timing for the new Redmi phones. While he did not reveal the exact launch date, he mentioned that the phones would be launched in India in six weeks. That means we can expect a launch in the second week of July, with sales likely starting within a week of the unveiling. The Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro are priced very aggressively in China, and if those prices carry on to India, we could actually see killing of a flagship.
Redmi K20 Pro specifications
In case you don’t remember, the Redmi K20 Pro is a powerful flagship device. It is powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor and gets a 6.39-inch AMOLED display. A 7th generation under-display fingerprint scanner is there too. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is paired with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. However, a recent leak revealed that there could also be a 12GB RAM variant of the phone that could be announced soon. The Pro version also comes with a triple-rear camera setup with a primary 48-megapixel sensor, and a 20-megapixel selfie camera. The front camera is mounted on to a pop-up mechanism, which means that the entire front of the phone is pretty much the display.
On the other hand, the Redmi K20 is a mid-range smartphone that is powered by the Snapdragon 710 chipset. The camera setup is similar to the one found on the Pro version, but with different sensors. Both phones also feature a large 4,000mAh battery, but the Pro version has faster 27W charging support.
