Police avert suicide plan of sacked NMC staffer

Nagpur: The police department succeeded in averting the suicide plan of Prakash Barde, one of the 17 dismissed Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) employees, by identifying him and taking him into custody at Mantralaya on Monday.
Barde had left for Mumbai on Saturday, leaving a suicide note at home saying he would commit suicide at Mantralaya for not being reinstated by NMC. Sakkardara police station had alerted their Mumbai police counterparts, and also sent two policemen along with Barde’s son Kunal to Mumbai.
The police personnel identified Barde and took him into their custody at Mantralaya. On Barde’s demand, the police also took Barde to the urban development department and held a meeting with officials. Barde wanted to discuss the issue with an officer of under secretary-level. Cuffe Parade and Sakkardara police kept Barde under observation and will take him again to Mantralaya to meet the official.

Barde will then be brought back to the city, said police sources.
On Monday, East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde, corporator Pravin Datke, Subhash Ghate and others met municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar and requested reinstatement of the 17 employees along the lines of 86 others. Bangar assured to look into the case.
