MoU for installation of prefabricated toilets at 232 stations in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday with Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) and RITES, a government enterprise under the aegis of Indian Railways, for installation of pre-fabricated toilets in circulating areas of 232 railway stations across the state.
The project will cover 172 stations over ECoR jurisdiction, 55 stations over South Eastern Railway (SER) and five stations over South East Central Railway (SECR) in Odisha. Each toilet block will have seven numbers of toilets (three for men along with four urinals), three for women and one for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
There is provision of overhead tank, wash basins and electrical fittings. The toilets will also have provisions of sanitary pad dispensing machines and napkin incinerator in female toilets and condom vending machines in male toilets.
Rail passengers, general public, hawkers, vendors, auto-rickshaw drivers, porters, railway staff and PWDs will be benefitted out of this initiative. Total cost of the project is Rs 58.07 crore and it will be borne by MCL. The project is expected to be completed in one year period, said ECoR sources said.

RITES will be the implementing partner for this project. After installation, the Railways will ensure regular cleaning and maintenance, water supply and lightings.
The tripartite MoU was signed here in the presence of ECoR’s principal chief engineer N S Uikey, MCL Sambalpur’s general Manager (CSR) B Sairam, RITES Gurgaon general manager Prem Ranjan Kumar and other ECoR officials.
